The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, pointed fingers at motorbike riders, citing them as contributors to the escalating incidents of kidnapping in the North Region.

The Minister called for heightened vigilance, frequent controls, and strict adherence to the rule of law during a meeting held at the North Governor’s office on Thursday, February 29.

“Concerning the activities of motorcycles, the Minister confirmed that their message to the Head of State from the 10 Regions during his birthday has been transmitted and that the Governor should convey feedback to them,” a statement from the Ministry read.

Despite recognising certain security challenges, the minister highlighted the efforts exerted by security forces to maintain peace in the region.

Addressing the populace, Atanga Nji urged collaboration with law enforcement to curb theft and kidnapping activities.

“With the upcoming elections, there is a need for the sharing of information by all stakeholders to anticipate pockets of disturbance and stop terrorism, banditry, and kidnappings for ransom,” he said.

Impressed by the cleanliness of Garoua City, the Minister commended the population through Governor Jean Abate Edii.

The meeting, which was attended by administrative authorities and the defence and security forces of the Region, took place ahead of the inauguration of the Garoua Central Mosque in Poumpoumre.

Atanga Nji is representing President Paul Biya at the event that is taking place this Friday, March 1.

The newly constructed mosque has significantly enhanced the aesthetic appeal of Garoua, marking a significant development in the region.

The Muslim community in Garoua warmly welcomed Minister Atanga Nji upon his arrival at the Garoua International Airport.
