Twenty four year old Audrey Nabila Monkam is winner of 2020 Miss Cameroon contest. With an imposing height of 1.80, the bachelors degree holder in administration out smarted 19 other contestants to wear the prestigious crown of beauty and brain in Cameroon.
Declaring her project for Cameroon during her reign as Miss Cameroon, Audrey Nabila Monkam envisages a Cameroonian society where problems of youths and women will be taken care of, a project others have described as unrealistic and without a clear precision on how it will be implemented.
The ceremony at the Yaounde sports complex Saturday December 28th 2019 was presided over by Cameroon’s Minister of Arts and Culture, Ismeal Bidoung Mkpatt.
Audrey Nabila Monkam a representative of the North West region of Cameroon is not a new name in the history of beauty contest in Cameroon. Her first attempt was in 2014. After failing, she redoubled efforts to write her name in the annals of beauty in Cameroon.
In 2017, She was elected Miss Beach after beating 25 other contestants, a journey of beauty and brains that she pursued in 2018 by winning Miss earth. This qualified her to represent Cameroon during Miss earth contest in Philipines last year.
By wearing the crown of Miss Cameroon 2020, Audrey Nabila Monkam takes over from Caroline Nseke, Miss Cameroon 2019.
With the winner of this year’s edition of Cameroon being a representative of the North West region (one of the two anglophone regions ravaged by war), critical minds say it’s a political strategy of “appeasement” by the government of Cameroon.
The ceremony witnessed a series of technical failures that once again undermined the expertise of the organising committee of Miss Cameroon beauty contest – COMICA headed by Madam Solange Ingride Amougou.
Contrary to popular expectations, first lady Chantal Biya who has been conspicuously present in previous editions was absent while the president of the jury was Marie Paula Obiang from Equatorial Guinea. The organising committee says the decision to get foreigners involved is to give the beauty contest a continental stand and attracts credibility.
