North West Regional Delegate for Public Health Orders Compulsory COVID-19 Tests For Pupils, Students, Teachers

By Beng Humphrey Fang

The North West Regional Delegate for Public Health who doubles as Covid-19 pandemic incident manager for the North West Region, has enjoined the population, most especially pupils, students and teachers in schools to immediately go for the COVID-19 tests if symptoms of loss of smell, loss of taste, cough, running nose, fever, headache, body weakness and shortness of breath are felt.

He made the call on Thursday 25th February 2021 in a communique publicly presenting statistics of the recent spike of COVID-19 cases across the region as of the 22nd February 2021.

As per the statistics of the virus in the region revealed by Dr Kingsly Che Soh, 1,714 people have been infected, 615 people are currently suffering from the disease, 1,012 recoveries after treatment and 89 deaths.

In the distribution graph of active cases across the region, Bamenda is the highest hit by the virus with 214 cases while Nkambe follows with 153 cases.

Last week, the Regional Delegate revealed, five people died from the virus.

Since the new year 2021, according to the Delegate, the Northwest Region has witnessed a rapid rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.

The alert by Dr Kingsly Che Soh comes a day after the Director of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Health Services, Professor Tih Pius Muffih warned of the aggressive return of the corona virus.

He revealed that more staff of the CBC health services have been infected in the past two weeks than were infected during the period of March to December in 2020.
