The Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka has lauded what he says is the professionalism of the military on a crusade against separatist in the restive North West region. General Claude Meka made the observation Thursday, March 24.

This was during a visit to Bamenda. It was focused on assessing the security climate in the 5th Joint Military Region and the 5th Gendarmerie Region. It was a routine control, this time at the 501 Airforce Base.

On arrival, the Chief of Defense Staff, accompanied by the Army Chief of Staff Major General Baba Soule, and some service heads were welcomed by Brigadier General Nka Valère, 5th Joint Military Region and Brigadier General Ekongwese Divine, commander of the 5th Gendarmerie Region.

The Defense boss chaired an in-camera meeting, aimed at following up on the implementation of the instructions on the management of the security situation during and after the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations 2021.

It emerged from the meeting that the Chief of Defense Staff congratulated the troops on the field while urging them to continue until peace is restored.

It also emerged that the successful celebration of the 56th edition of the Youth Day and the 37th edition of the International Women’s Day were hitch-free in the administrative units of the North West and West Regions.

This, the military officials said, is particularly thanks to the professionalism of the troops.

Military sources also hinted that further instructions have been handed, in line with the elimination of “terrorist groups” still operating in the North West and South Regions.
