“Not All Inmates At The Buea Central Prison Have To Be There” – Bishop Michael Bibi

The Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, Michael Bibi, has noted that some inmates at the Buea Central Prison are not supposed to be there in the first place.

His Lordship Michael Bibi made this statement during the 2021 edition of his traditional annual visits to inmates in the Buea central prison on December 27.

During the visit that involved a Holy Mass celebration, the diocesan delegation brought alongside them, food, health care aid, and other necessities which according to the Bishop are meant to feed the hungry and treat the sick.

In an interview with the press, Bishop Michael Bibi said “We have come for this year’s visit, despite our inability to make it here for the last two years, courtesy of the covid-19 pandemic… Some of them are not supposed to be here”.

While noting that “we have discussed with many of them, discovering that most have difficulties leaving this place because of inability to meet up fines,” the Bishop reveals that the diocese wishes to help get some out of incarceration.

“This is not where they are supposed to be. Whatever brought them here should be resolved,” he concluded.
