The Governor of the North West region, Adolphe Lele L’Afrique, chaired a crucial regional security meeting , focusing on assessing the region’s health, well-being, and development strategies amidst a recent spike in violence.

This routine meeting saw the participation of key administrative and security officials, who deliberated on measures to enhance security and ensure the smooth progress of the region.

The North West region has been grappling with a series of violent incidents, including attacks, kidnappings, the planting of explosives, and numerous killings.

Most recently, on May 20, a barbaric attack tragically killed the mayor of Belo and the inspector for basic education in Belo.

Despite these challenges, Governor Adolphe Lele L’Afrique highlighted the resilience of public services in the region.

“Public services are functioning despite difficulties. I am encouraging them to double their efforts while security forces are mobilised to accompany them,” he stated.

Moussa Saidou, the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Boyo, provided an update on the investigation into the May 20th attack.

“Investigation is ongoing to get all the perpetrators of the 20th May barbaric attack that claimed the life of the Mayor for Belo and the Inspector for Basic Education,” he confirmed.

The SDO emphasised that the situation in Boyo is now “under control,” thanks to swift and decisive actions taken by security forces.

“The situation in Boyo is under total control after the barbaric incident of May 20. I went to Belo on the 21st and I told the population to be vigilant and report such barbarism so that we can prevent its occurrence, hence developing our Division,” Moussa added, urging community members to remain alert and cooperative.

The meeting concluded with a renewed call for collaboration between security forces and local communities to prevent further violence and promote development. But critics question the significance of such gathering as violence and killings continue in the restive North West and South West regions of the country.
