Many travelers who left other regions of Cameroon enroute to the North West Region were today blocked at Matazem, the border crossing between the North West and West Regions.

Talking to MMI from that area earlier, a passenger said, they had not been able to cross because Santa in the North West Region is currently observing a ghost town operation.

This, he explained, is due to October 1 celebrations, a day separatists also mark as their independence day.

Transport buses, vehicles transportating goods and others remained at the entry town hoping they would be allowed to drive through Santa to Bamenda without any issues.

“The situation is bad, we may sleep here if care is not taken. We are pleading with those incharge to let us pass safely. We never knew there will be lockdown since they said it ended yesterday,” one traveler stated.

“… Please, have mercy on us. We even have patients among us. I just wish that, our cry is heard,” e cried out.

At press time, no one had left that area as the buses and other heavy duty vehicles remained stuck.

MMI.
