Several persons say they are uncomfortable with the excessive noise emanating from a relaxation spot in the Odza neighborhood in Yaoundé.
The luxurious place for lavish spenders is said to have been opened over three months ago by Popular Cameroonian Bikutsi artist, Lady Ponce.
The property has a cabaret for live dancing and staging, a beauty shop, a gym, and a restaurant. Several Cameroonian entertainers like Dynasty le Tigre, Ben Decca, and Longue Longue converge regularly to thrill the crowd with some of their classics.
However, the property is not soundproofed, and any sounds made from there are heard throughout the neighborhood. This has been a major concern for the neighbors who last week decided to voice their grievances.
Several persons took to the streets with placards to protest against the noise coming from the relaxation spot. The angry Odza inhabitants say the property has taken away the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood.
“Ever since this place became operational we have had no peace in the neighborhood. It has made sleep almost impossible. I have children who are no longer able to study properly because of the noise coming from that place…,” Complained one of the protesters.
The protesters were however quick to point out that the protest is not an act of sabotage against Lady Ponce, but a desperate attempt to return life to normal in Odza.
Faced with this problem, it is now believed that the management team of the relaxation spot has started taking measures to ensure a significant reduction of noise from the property.
