Officials blame Bamenda dry taps on insecurity

As the dry season intensifies in Bamenda, the water crisis has resurfaced in almost every neighborhood in the city.

Taps and water bodies have dried off. Inhabitants of many neighborhoods have started complaining as their search for portable water intensifies. They now carry water in wells and streams of doubtful quality.

The North West delegate for Water and Energy, Asanga John Nkeng, says insecurity is the cause of the little or no effort put in by the government to tackle the water crisis.

The Bamenda Water project whose construction was interrupted in 2016 has dealt a huge blow to the city. The giant water project which was an initiative of the government was expected to provide water to most inhabitants of the town.

The project that started in 2016 with its source being Lake Awing was interrupted as the crisis started, leaving the population to suffer the effects.

The water crisis in Bamenda is an endemic problem but worsens in the dry season.
