Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has insisted that the challenges he faced during his debut season at Old Trafford will only serve to improve his game.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper has faced scrutiny at times, particularly after the consolation goal conceded in the FA Cup final win against Manchester City in May. However, Onana believes that such experiences are an inevitable part of football.

“Mistakes are a normal part of life, and everyone makes them,” Onana said. “I’m old enough to handle this kind of responsibility.”

The former Ajax keeper has admitted to a noticeable upturn in form since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. He believes that the mental fortitude required to perform at the highest level for a club of Manchester United’s stature is essential.

“This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and you need a strong personality to play here,” he added. “That’s what you have to show on the pitch.”

Onana’s determination to learn from his experiences suggests that he is ready to build on a promising first season at Old Trafford and establish himself as a key figure for the Red Devils.

Onana made 38 appearances in all competitions last season, keeping nine clean sheets. While his performances were generally solid, he has faced criticism for some high-profile errors.
