A band of separatist fighters have stormed the Tundip Market, in Donga Mantung division of the volatile North West region shooting at least one person to death and injuring another.

The incident happened Wednesday May 18.

The fighters are said to have stormed the Tundip Market and opened fired on civilians.

They are said to have accessed the market on board motorbikes . Some traders are said to have scampe A source told MMI that: “As people saw them coming on four motorbikes, they started running and the amba boys started shooting at the civilians…”

The person who was shot death is said to be an elderly man.

Meanwhile, another person hit by a bullet on the leg is said to be receiving treatment in a health facility — as some were reportedly wounded in the process.

According to sources, the separatist fighters in question hailed from kuvlu village in the neighbouring Bui division.

The attack comes as preparations heighten nationwide for the celebration of the National Day tomorrow.

Nkambe in Donga Mantung division has remained resilient obeying all state instructions despite contrary orders from separatist fighters. Many see yesterday’s attack as part of Amba fighters’ move to scare the population of the area.
