Osih responds to backlash, says “political lackeys” fanning sentimental flames

After backlash from both social media and his politician colleagues, Cameroonian opposition MP, Joshua Osih has attempted to justify joining his colleagues of the ruling CPDM party to bash US Congressmen.

Osih who is the first national Vice President of the Social Democratic Front, SDF party joined 64 pro-government MPs to sign a letter calling out 40 US Congressmen for a recent outing on the protection of Cameroonian asylum seekers.

A message attributed to the politician seeks to justify the move, noting that he was misunderstood.
The said letter which he signed, Osih noted, “… evoked several aspects which make it foolhardy to read it in a singular context”.

“My political goal is not to look at the best means by which to portray the weaknesses of the country but rather to the best way to resolve its imminent challenges,” the message reads.

The original intention of the Anglophone crisis, the note states, was polluted.: “They hijacked the ‘struggle’ by peddling the idea of an independent country … [SDF] party members should therefore not be drawn into this sentimental expression and futile debates fanned by political lackeys,” the politician responded.

His vision, he added, is “for the unity of all the political forces of the left, of all the progressives”.

This is not the first time Osih is being called out for taking a controversial stance over matters of national interest. Following the February 14 massacre by soldiers last year, Osih in a media outing said it was too early to blame the military for the act. He furthered that separatist fighters are believed to have used military fatigue in several instances, and so it was hard to automatically point accusing fingers at the soldiers.
