Over 3 billion CFA ‘disappear’ from National Assembly accounts.

The ad-hoc committee in charge of the evaluation of administrative and financial accounts of the Cameroon National Assembly has revealed that more than 3 billion francs (CFA) are missing from the account of the National Assembly.

This follows an audit carried out by an ad hoc committee made up of Assembly Questors, headed by Theophile Baoro, MP.

According to the Committee findings, irregularities were noticed in the accounts of the house with more than 3 billion FCFA missing.

“In the preliminary report addressed to the President of the National Assembly, the Quaestors noted a cash deficit of the order of FCFA 2,719,696,001 for the 2022 financial year and FCFA 1,771,006,007 for the year 2023 as of May 31” the committee report sent to House Speaker revealed.

Calling on the accountant of the National Assembly to provide answers for the irregularities, the ad-hoc committee stated “This observation is the result of the use of the accounting documents that you have put in place,”

The data collected during the audit, MMI learned that “traces all cash payments, partially paid securities, unrecorded paid securities, and vouchers.”

“In view of the above, I ask you to provide, upon receipt of this correspondence, clarifications on the irregularities noted by the Quaestors. Please believe, Mr. Cashier, in the assurance of our consideration.” the Committee report signed by Theophile Baoro, MP, demanded.
