The government of Cameroon has ordered the closure of over 500 lay private and confessional schools in some seven regions of the country.
The information is contained in a joint statement by the Minister of Secondary education, Nalova Lyonga, and the Minister of Basic education.
326 primary schools and 117 colleges have been affected, according to the release.
The reasons for the Ministerial decision according to the government is as a result of “fake documents, nonconducive environments and lack of licenses, to mention a few.”
This comes barely two weeks to the resumption of school activities for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Parents have been urged to be cautious while choosing schools for their children, vis-a-vis the upcoming academic year.
