Passive La Francophonie pledges to help Biya resolve anglophone crisis

The Secretary General of La Francophonie has announced that the organisation is ready to lend its support toward a peaceful resolution of the Anglophone crisis rocking the North West and South West regions.

Louise Mushikiwabo took the pledge after meeting with President Paul Biya at the Unity Palace on Friday.

Paul Biya who invited the high level guest disclosed on his Facebook account that he had a “convival” discussion with the Rwandan born Francophonie scribe on a wide range of issues. At the end of the lengthy chat, Rwanda’s former Foreign chief told reporters that, her organisation will accompany Cameroon to concretely waterdown prevailing security flashpoints.

“I wanted to offer that the organisation that I lead is ready, willing and happy to contribute in any way possible to the stability of this country and the continuity of the peace that it enjoyed for many years until recently,” she explained.

Louise Mushikiwabo also reassured the Government that, there will be more collaboration from the organisation in terms of education, youth empowerment and the digital era.

The Secretary General of La Francophonie used the occasion to discuss with the Head of state her vision for the organisation, with the hope that ties between Cameroon and La Francophonie will deepen.

The organisation which groups former French colonies and friends of France has gone comatose over the disturbing situation in the North West and South West regions.

The last time the body made its voice heard on the issue was back in October 2017. In a letter signed by the former Secretary General Michaelle Jean, the organisation expressed deep concerns over the situation on ground.

“The current tension in these regions of Cameroon is very worrying. Violence should never be an option to be heard. I therefore invite everyone to show responsibility and utmost restraint, ” Jean lamented.
