The Rwandan President, Paul Kagame has said he intends to become a journalist when leaves power.

The long-time leader of Rwanda expressed the desire after making known his intentions of handing power to a new leader.

He has been president for 23 years and counting.

Following a briefing with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto Wednesday April 5 2023, Kagame said a succession plan is under discussion within the ruling party.

Given that no human is remotely indispensable, President Paul Kagame said his retirement was an ‘inevitability.’

The leader of the land-locked East African country, however, said he intends to become a journalist when he retires from the highest office of state.

“…………join journalism in my old age. I’m looking forward to that,” President Kagame said.

Kagame’s reign has been heavily criticised for its poor press freedom record which has stifled journalists, let to the imprisonment and killing of some.

He has been ruling Rwanda since, 1998 after the Rwandan genocide — and his present mandate expires in 2024.

Kagame was a rebel leader whose militia helped stop the genocide of 1994 that claimed over half a million Rwandan lives.
