The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC), Rt Rev Samuel Fonki Forba, has urged on Christians to guard against those who use the social media to sabotage the church and its leaders.

He made these remarks, among others, Sunday, November 17, 2024, during a service at PC Buea Town as he opened the “Synod of Assurance,” which elect his successor.

Reflecting on his tenure and addressing the challenges faced by the church, Rt Rev Fonki emphasized the resilience of the PCC amidst opposition.

“We are opposed by the people of the world who know nothing about the church. They have even recruited Christians from other denominations,” he stated, before affirming, “If God were not on our side, the PCC would have been torn apart. You cannot bring down the roof of the PCC. Our help is in the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

He celebrated the endurance of the church, attributing its survival and growth to divine intervention.

“The church of God is still alive and vibrant. Praise God, the church is indestructible,” he declared.

Addressing Criticism and Social Media Campaigns

Speaking to critics who have leveraged social media to attack the church, Rev Fonki dismissed their efforts, asserting that the governance of the church is rooted in divine principles, not online debates.

“The church is not governed on social media. Let them call themselves the House of Truth with deceitful people; let them continue granting press conferences and using all social media platforms. The church of Christ will never bow to worldly forces. The church is rooted in God and cannot be uprooted by men.”

A Legacy of Transformation

Rt Rev Fonki’s decade-long leadership has been marked by significant achievements, particularly in infrastructure.

The Presbyterian Hospital complex in Bamenda and the Synod office in Buea stand as testaments to his transformative vision.

Additionally, he is credited with steering the church through tumultuous periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.

As he prepares to hand over leadership, Rev Fonki called on the faithful to remain united.

“Do not fight against one another because a new era is about to begin,” he appealed.

The Synod of ‘Blessed Assurance’

The Synod, themed, “Blessed Assurance”, will convene on Monday, November 18, 2024, to elect the next Moderator.

The session has been charged with building a stronger PCC that will navigate the challenges of modern society while staying aligned with God’s purpose.

Rt Rev Fonki’s final sermon marks the end of a pivotal chapter in the history of the PCC, with hopes for continued growth and resilience under the new leadership.
