Police in Nigeria have arrested Tahamado Jonathan Demian, a 34-year-old man who allegedly orchestrated the kidnapping of two Reverend Fathers in the Church where he worshipped.

The Adamawa State Police apprehended Tahamado and charged him of kidnapping Rev Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew David Dusami.

According to SP Suleiman Yahaya, the Public Relations Officer for the Nigerian police, investigators arrested the suspect during a coordinated operation at a criminal hideout in Gwaida Malam village, a remote area between Numan and Demsa Local Government Areas.

The police had started investigations on the case on February 21, 2025. This investigation led to the rescue of victims without any ransom being paid.

The police also recovered a locally fabricated assault rifle, a handset and sim cards of the suspect onsite.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended the swift efforts of the officers. He also expressed gratitude for the support from the government, sister security agencies, and the public.

He stated that the arrest and successful rescue operation demonstrated their commitment to ensuring peace and security across the state.

CP Morris urged people to continue supporting the police with timely information to aid their response to criminal activities.

The suspect, he said, would remain in custody as investigations continued, and the authorities would ensure a diligent prosecution.
