The President of the Popular Action Party, Njang Denis has published a communiqué criticizing the sentencing of incarcerated CRM militants by the Yaoundé Military Court.
On December 27, 2021, the CRM National Treasurer Alain Forgue and Olivier Bibou Nissack, Maurice Kamto’s Spokesman were each handed out a 7 years jail term.
On December 28, 2021, Awusum Mispa, the National President of the CRM Women’s wing, and Pascal Zamboue were equally sentenced to 7 years in prison each still by the Yaounde Military Tribunal on accusations of inciting the population to rebellion and attempted insurrection.
Following the sentences, the President of the Popular Action Party, Njang Denis has criticized the Government and accused it of having the lack of political will to engage in a meaningful dialogue with opposition parties.
Njang Denis said “imprisoning politicians is a resounding signal that the ruling class lacks the stamina to measure up with any contradictions rather than collaborating with the opposition for a more vibrant Cameroon.”
According to the PAP President, the regime has a “hidden agenda… to ignite Cameroonians to violence.”
Njang Denis called on Cameroonians home and abroad, political parties among others to rise and call the regime to order.
At a time when Cameroon is preparing to host the African Cup of Nations Tournament, many have opined that it doesn’t augur well for the image of the country.
These condemnations also come just a few weeks after Professor Maurice Kamto urged the Government to release his mlitants for them to enjoy end-of-year festivities with their families.
He said while addressing a mammoth crowd in Douala that his party was going to be peaceful in seeking solutions, but also did not rule out using force should the need arise.
