Pope Benedict XVI regains stability after announcement of deteriorating health condition

Pope Benedict XVI is reported to have regained stability shortly after his deteriorating health condition was made public.

On Wednesday, December 28, 2022, Pope Francis appealed for prayers for former Pope Benedict XVI who according to him was ‘very ill’.

This was at the end of the General Audience.

“I would like to ask you all for a special prayer for Pope Emeritus Benedict, who in silence is supporting the Church. Remember him – he is very ill – asking the Lord to console him, and sustain him in this witness of love for the Church, until the end, ” Pope Francis said.

Addressing Vatican News today December 29, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni stated that, “The Pope Emeritus managed to rest well last night, he is absolutely lucid and alert today.”

He went on, “Although his condition remains serious, the situation at the moment is stable.“

Pope Benedict XVI served as the head of the Catholic church and the sovereign of the Vatican City State from April 19, 2005, to February 28, 2013.
