Pope Francis has called on Catholic Bishops to welcome LGBTQ community into the church.
“We are all children of God, and God loves us as we are and for the strength that each of us fights for our dignity,” said Pope Francis during an interview with The Associated on January 24, 2023.
Pope Francis went on to reveal that “being homosexual isn’t a crime.”
According to the supreme pontiff, bishops themselves have to undergo a process of change to recognize the dignity of every human being.
He further acknowledged that Catholic bishops in some parts of the world support laws that criminalize homosexuality or discriminate against LGBTQ people, and he himself referred to the issue in terms of “sin.”
“Being homosexual is not a crime,” he said. “It’s not a crime. Yes, but it’s a sin. Fine, but first let’s distinguish between a sin and a crime.”
