Popular Action Party Sets June Convention to Rebuild and Unite

The Popular Action Party (PAP) has announced plans to hold a National Council Convention in June, aiming to revitalise and reunite its members, as per a recent press release signed by its president, Njang Denis Tabe. The convention, scheduled for June 21–22 in Buea, seeks to reconnect the party with its grassroots following years of disruption due to the ongoing crisis. Tabe highlighted the importance of reminding party members of the PAP’s resurgence and the need to reconstruct its organisational framework.

Moreover, the party intends to mobilise supporters and sympathisers to register on electoral lists ahead of the 2025 elections. The release emphasised the significance of the convention as an opportunity for the party to reaffirm its commitments and devise strategies to address pressing national issues, including conflicts in the North and South West Regions, the presence of Boko Haram in the Northern Regions, overall insecurity, and escalating commodity prices.

“It will be a momentous occasion for the party to reaffirm its engagements and to share insights, vision, and strategies to address the critical issues facing our country, ranging from the war in the North and South West Regions, Boko Haram in the Northern Regions, generalised insecurity, and hikes in the prices of basic commodities,” the release read.

The PAP is inviting its supporters to actively “be part of the collective force shaping the path forward for our party and nation.”.

Previously led by Ayah Paul Abine, a retired Supreme Court magistrate, the PAP has yet to nominate its candidate for the 2025 presidential elections and may consider joining a coalition, a notion gaining traction in current discourse.

Notably, the party’s leadership has engaged in various activities, including participation in mass protests led by Maurice Kamto of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, following the disputed 2018 presidential election, which Kamto alleged was marred by fraud.
