Inhabitants of Bamenda 2-Mezam division in the North West region of Cameroon say elements of the rapid intervention police (ESSIR) are responsible for the shootings on Monday March 9th 2020.

Visiting Bamenda this Tuesday March 10th to condole with wounded persons and examine the situation, the Senior Divisional Officer of Mezam was astonished to learn that elements of the police have been disturbing peace by shooting.

To one of the inhabitants, “The police run around the quarter shooting randomly. We don’t have Amba boys here. We have set up vigilante groups here that report and investigate any stranger but our problem is the police that shoot buildings with their bullets wounding others”.

Note that shooting in different locations in Bamenda have occurred almost on daily bases since the end of municipal and legislative elections.
