Road users in Bamenda have frowned at Peter Chenwi, Mayor of Bamenda II Council in the restive North West Region of Cameroon.

They are accussing the mayor of aggravating the deteriorating road situation in the area.

This was after the mayor in a bid to ameliorate the stretch linking Veterinary Junction and Ayaba Street left the road in an unbearable state.

We gathered that mud mixed with gravel was the material used to rehabilitate the road reason why it got bad hours after due to heavy rains.

According to a cab driver who simply identified as Romaric, the mayor is not serious.

“This mayor is not serious. Look at the road for yourself, is this how road mentainance works are done.”

He asked: “… how can mud be added on mud in the name of road repairs, look at the road now after millions were spent. They would have just allow it like that. This is disheartening.”

Another road user who is not happy with Mayor Peter Chenwi is a Police officer working with the Public Security Police Station in Bamenda.

He said “This Bamenda II Mayor will not cease to amaze me. His activities are really not up to standard. If he is not giving rice to bike rider, he is pouring mud on the road. How can mud be used in the 21 Century to rehabilitate roads and my colleagues were even there providing security, this is bad”.

It should be noted that Bamenda II is the seat of the City Council, the North West Developement Authority known in it’s French acronym as MIDENO with sole mission to promote local developement, yet their impact is yet to be felt.
