Preliminary inquiry for Ngarbuh massacre kicks off at Yaounde military tribunal

An examining magistrate at the military tribunal in Yaounde has started a preliminary inquiry Monday June 8th 2020 following the killing of civilians in Ngarbuh village, Ndu Sub Division in the North West Region of Cameroon on the 14th of February 2020.

According to barrister Tamfu Richard writing to Mimi Mefo Info, there are abnormalities in the process.

He says “to my greatest surprise, a majority of the victims are not even informed. The chambers of the examining magistrate was surprised to see counsels of the civil claimants.”

He adds that lawyers of the civil party have been requested to get their clients for examination by the magistrate tomorrow Tuesday. It should be noted that the trial has not reached an open court at the moment.

The talks are taking place at the chambers of an examining magistrate. Following a report of a commission of inquiry set up to investigate the incident, the military was found guilty of perpetrating such manslaughter with the help of vigilante group members in Nkambe, Donga Mantung Division.

Dozens of civilians including kids and pregnant women were killed during the unfortunate incident on February 14 2020.
