President Biya endorses special status for North West, South West regions

President Paul Biya has declared that a special status will be put in place in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon to maintain the specificities of the regions.
In an interview granted Tuesday November 12th 2019 in Paris France, president Paul Biya noted that a special status will be granted the regions but they still remain “within the unity of the nation” and its territorial integrity.

To the president of Cameroon, cultural differences between the majority French speaking and the minority English speaking made the situation “delicate” but efforts are in place to resolve the problem.
He also recognized the differences between the educational and judicial systems of English and French speaking Cameroon.
This is the Head of State’s first official comment on a recommendation taken during the national dialogue in Yaounde last month.

Political commentators still think the declaration of a special status for the Anglophone regions of Cameroon by President Paul Biya is a window dressing, given that the contents of the special status have not been defined.

President Paul Biya is attending a conference on Peace in Paris France on invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.
