Prof. Maurice Kamto rubbishes government’s 2019 actions

The leader of Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) has described the holding of the major national dialogue as a monologue that cannot resolve the anglophone crisis.

Prof. Maurice Kamto in his end of year address to the nation Tuesday December 31 2019 said the anglophone problem cannot be resolved when the government of Cameroon is talking to itself and not those who have issues against the regime.

On the recommendations taken in the course of the national dialogue and further endorsed by the parliament, the leader of the CRM party says promulgating a law on the general code on regional and local authorities that contains a special status for the North West and South West regions is not a solution to the anglophone crisis.

While adhering that secession is not the best option for Cameroon at the moment, Mr. Kamto condemns those who describe federation as another form of dividing Cameroon. Prof. Kamto says secession is not an option but stressed on the need for all the actors to come to a dialogue table, that will seek lasting solutions to the Anglophone crisis.

On the health of economy in Cameroon, he points the shutdown of Cameroon Development Cooperation, PAMOL, the national oil refinery and other companies that have come to a stand still because of the crisis. By quoting these, he concludes that the health of the economy is poor. This contradicts Paul Biya’s claims that the economy is doing fairly good despite external forces.

As concerns post election protests launched since the beginning of the year by Cameroon Renaissance Movement political party, Maurice Kamto promised a continuation despite his party’s boycott of elections next year. The party is still standing against electoral fraud and injustice practiced by the regime of president Paul Biya.

Meantime, President Paul Biya in his speech condemned political parties and individuals that have opted not to respect decisions given by democratic institutions of the state of Cameroon

While wishing Cameroonians a happy new year 2020, Maurice Kamto is optimistic that resistance against the regime will continue in 2020.
