Professor Maurice Kamto Tackles Biya Regime in End of Year Speech

Just like the President of the Republic, the Chairman of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, Professor Maurice Kamto also addressed Cameroonians via his social media networks on December 31, 2021.

The CRM Chairman mentioned several things in his speech, and also took out time to lash out at the Biya regime for its nonchalant and dictatorial rule since Paul Biya came to power in 1982.

Professor Maurice Kamto addressed the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, which he says did not only cause deaths but also greatly hampered economic activities in Cameroon.

Professor Maurice Kamto also criticized state authorities whom he said used the breakout of the Covid-19 pandemic to engage in massive embezzlement of funds meant to fight the spread of the virus in the country.

Furthermore, Professor Maurice Kamto, as expected, raised concerns about the prevailing crisis in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. He once more blamed the regime for the degeneration of the crisis, and reiterated that “the conflict cannot be solved militarily, it can be solved politically.”

He also stressed the need for an inclusive dialogue process, with preconditions which according to him the state is aware of.

Professor Maurice Kamto also lashed out at the President’s unavailability throughout the entire year in the face of several difficulties faced by the country. Professor Maurice Kamto cited some instances in his speech where to him the president of the Republic had ghosted Cameroonians at a time his presence was deemed vital, like during the first breakout of the Covid-19 in Cameroon in April 2020.

Maurice Kamto argued that a country wrecked with numerous crises could not be contented with having a sporadic figure at the helm of things like President Paul Biya.

Tying the President’s volatility to his physical condition, Maurice Kamto said he respects President Paul Biya’s age and the fragility of his health, but he also highlighted that it should not be an avenue to jeopardize the destinies of thousands of Cameroonians.

The President of the CRM Party also addressed the concern of his incarcerated Militants, arrested over a year ago in September 2020.

Professor Kamto said the militants were tortured and detained unlawfully for fulfilling their Democratic rights. According to him, their crime was that they had demanded an end to the crisis in the Anglophone Regions, and demanded a dialogue process to be initiated among other things.

Professor Kamto insisted that Government’s hate towards the CRM party and its allies was not going to deter their fight, which according to him, will be carried right to the end.
