Rev. Miki Hans Abia PCC Moderator
The provisional results for the 2024 nominations for Moderator and Synod Clerk have been released. According to the initial tally provided by the PCC Electoral Commission following the nominations held on Sunday, October 13, across all PCC presbyteries, Rev. Miki Hans, the current Synod Clerk, is leading the race for Moderator, while Rev. Ayuk Solomon Etta is a strong contender for the Synod Clerk position.
Rev. Miki Hans has garnered 93 points across various presbyteries, establishing a solid lead over his competitors. His prior experience as Synod Clerk has evidently resonated with voters, earning him widespread support. Notable presbyteries such as Bafut, Donga-Mantung, and Mezam South have backed his leadership, bolstering his position as the frontrunner in this race.
His main competitor, Rev. Njongai Polycarp, follows with 61 points. Although he has received considerable support from key presbyteries like Kumba, Upper Bayang, and Ndop, Rev. Njongai will need a significant final push to close the gap before the final vote. Rev. Numfor Godwin, with 38 points, currently ranks third, posing a lesser challenge to the leading candidates.
In the Synod Clerk race, Rev. Ayuk Solomon Etta leads with 87 points, reflecting his broad appeal across the presbyteries. His strong support from areas like Batibo, Buea, and Mezam places him in a commanding position. Rev. Mokoko Simon Elive is in second place with 52 points, while Rev. Mokoko Thomas follows in third with 25 points.
The 2024 Synod nominations have highlighted intriguing voting patterns within the PCC. Presbyteries such as Mezam South, Ndop, and Donga-Mantung have been pivotal in shaping the provisional results, demonstrating the influence of geographically diverse support bases on the standings of the leading candidates. Whether this trend will continue as the election proceeds remains to be seen.
As the current Moderator, Rt. Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba, approaches retirement, Synod Clerk Rev. Miki Hans is favored to succeed him in the church’s top leadership role. Meanwhile, Rev. Ayuk Solomon Etta, presently the Presbyterial Secretary of Ndian, is emerging as a strong candidate for Synod Clerk. The elections are scheduled for November 2024.
The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon has recently been the focus of mixed media attention. While some commend the current Moderator for his contributions to church development, others hold him accountable for alleged misappropriation within the church.
