Public Service Minister announces devolution of powers to regional authorities

Civil servants and state employees in Cameroon will now no longer need to travel to the nation’s capital, Yaoundé for some official processes.

Cameroon’s Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, MINFOPRA, Joseph Le has announced the devolution of powers to regional authorities to ease the process of getting the documents done.

In a video announcement, Minister Joseph Le said he had under the instructions of President Paul Biya, signed a number of ministerial orders to that effect on February 12, 2021.

The orders, he said, grant “delegation of signature to regional delegates of the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms”.

“It is henceforth possible for you to withdraw these career instruments from your area of residence or where you have been transferred,” Minister Le announced.

The delegation of signatures, he explained, is in a bid to save civil servants and those needing his ministry’s service, the stress of having to travel to Yaoundé to certify their documents.

“This,” he stated, “means you can certify these documents on the spot. This prevents you from spending huge transportation fares, from taking risks by traveling over long distances and from wasting a lot of time when you arrive in Yaoundé”.

Reiterating the need to effectively serve service seekers, the MINFOPRA boss noted that public service remains free.

“At MINFOPRA like in all other public administrations, public service is free of charge,” said Minister Le.

“It must not be sold or bought. We are here for you and must render your services as best as we can” he said, adding that all feedback would be taken graciously and in good faith.

The recent move is expected to ease several processes for citizens who before were compelled to travel long distances to meet up with some official processes in Yaoundé.

It is also expected to reduce the love of corruption that has often left many frustrated at the ministry.
