Public Works Ministry Alegedly Constructs 2,075.19 Km New Roads

The Cameroon Ministry of Public Works says between 2016 and 2013, the country constructed New roads of 2,075.19 km. The ministry announced that the roads are already in use.

The ministry reported that, in addition to constructing new roads, they rehabilitated 994.7 km of roads between 2016 and 2023.

Newly Constructed, Rehabilitated Roads

The Ministry reports that they constructed and put to use a total of 47 new roads between 2016 and 2023. The ministry stated that they have remained incomplete. The public works ministry reported that 19 roads have been rehabilitated during that time.

The ministry reported that some of the rehabilitated roads now require rehabilitation. Travel the stretch between Bekoko in the Litoral and Idenau in the South West. The ministry reports that they have rehabilitated this road, but it remains full of potholes.

The stretch between Ndop and Kumbo in the Northwest region presents another case. The ministry announced that they have rehabilitated the road. This stretch lies on the ring road that covers seven divisions in the region. The construction team began the ring road project in 2011. Before 2015, they progressed work to Kumbo from Ndop. Why is the road undergoing rehabilitation again from 2016 to 2023?

Numba – Bachuo – Akagbe (52.5 km);  Bachuo – Akagbe – Mamfe – Ekok (83 km); Bamenda – Batibo – Numba (63 km); Eastern entrance to the city of Douala (Phase 1) (19.2 km); Foumban – Manki (40 km);  Western entrance to the city of Douala (Phase 1) (13.09 km); Kumba – Kumbe Bakundu – Nfaitock (104 km); Access road to the Memve’ele Hydroelectric Project, Meyo Centre – Ma’an – Nyabizan major road (93.5 km); Batchenga – Ntui, including bridge over River Sanaga at Nachtigal and Yoko – Lena (66.2 km); Manki – Mape Bridge and construction of bridge over River Mape (25.8 km); The first 50 kilometres of the Galim – Bamendjing – Foumbot – Bangangte road (50 km); Ahala – Ahala Barrière and ramps (6.98 km); Oback – Ekorezock – Nouma – Leboudi – Carrefour Zoa Mbassi (13.6 km); Access roads to the Bagofit weighing station (2.5 km); Yaounde – Douala Motorway (Phase I) (60 km); Edea – Kribi Motorway (Lot 1), Kribi – Lolabe (38.5 km); Lele – Ntam – Mbala and Mintom – Lele, on the Djoum – Mintom road (120.5 km); Sangmelima – Bikoula, Bikoula – Djoum (103 km); Nkolessong-Nding and Nanga Eboko ramp – Bifogo, (95 km); Maroua – Bogo (34.84 km); Mangamba – Bonjo (10.95 km); Carrefour Bangou – Bangou Ville (0.7 km); Mebame – Minkebe (12 km); Carrefour Katanga – Carrefour Mission Catholique towards Okola, Nyom II – Nkozoa, Échangeur Olembe – Nyom II and Olembe – Nyom II (10.5 km); Inter N1 – Carrefour Méri (Phase I)   (5.8 km);

Furthermore, they report of works on the following: Lena – Tibati – Ngatt, lots 5 and 6 of the Batchenga – Ntui – Yoko – Lena – Tibati road (167.5 km); Mengong – Sangmelima (74 km), including the construction of 5.6 km of road system in Mengong and rehabilitation of 3.65 km of road system in Sangmelima (83.82 km); Olama – Bingambo section on the Olama – Kribi road (106.15 km); Grand Zambi – Kribi section on the Olama – Kribi road (53 km); Mandjou – Akokan (45 km); Access roads to the Nomayos Cement Plant (5.45 km); Mbama – Messamena, including road systems in Abong Mbang and Messamena (49.37 km); Doum – Yen road section alongside the Bikoula – Djoum road (21 km);  Ndjom Yekombo – Biboulemam (8.3 km), Bidjong Loop – Bidjong (41.8 km) sections and Carrefour Zoumeyos – Mekin (62.4 km); Meiting – Yoko and town of Yoko road system (31 km); Saotchaï (Touloum) – DatchekaTakreo – Yoldeo – Doukoula  (20 km); Nding – Mbgaba, including the Minta road system and extension of the Mbgaba – Mbet section  (50.71 km); Works to open up the West agricultural basin: Lot 1.3: Baleveng – Bangang – Batcham, 2 Batcham – Balessing; Bagang road system and ramps (38.07 km); Kambatse – Batossouo (Tchouop) – Towards the agricultural swampland (2.5 km); Roads connecting the Yaounde – Douala Motorway (Phase 1) to National Road No. 3 via Boumnyebel and to the Yaounde urban network via Nkolbisson (25 km); Galim – Bamendjing – Foumbot – Bangangte (99.1 km); Bonepoupa – Yabassi (51.3 km); The infrastructure around the PAUL BIYA Monument (5.26 km); Bapouh – Kozah – Basso (7 km); Obak – Mvoua – Nkolndono – Koudandeng – Messassi paved road Intersection – Nkometou2 (22 km); Carrefour Express Union Messassi – Civil Registracy Entrance and ramps (2 km); Acess roads to Résidence Sarra  (2.7 km).

Rehabilitated Roads

Major Roads Repaired/Reconstructed and Commissioned Between 2016 and 2023: 994.7 Km; Mbere – Ngaoundere (89.2 km);  Zoetele – Nkolyop (27.5 km); Reconstruction and widening of key infrastructure along the Ngaoundere – Garoua road  (10 km); Bekoko – Limbe – Idenau (Phase 1) (93 km); Ndop – Kumbo (60.5 km); Ebebda – Carrefour Ndikinimeki – Makenene (104 km); Ngolbang – Zoetele – Sangmelima – Mezesse – Meyomessala (65 km); Ebeda Bridge – Kalong section, including the construction of an interchange in Obala (63.75 km); Kalong – Tonga – Bafoussam – Babadjou section (177.24 km); Maroua – Mora (62 km).

The public works ministry also claims to have constructed the following: Esse – Bikoue – Carrefour Boto – Mvom – Ebanga – Mfeckkoundi – Avolo Bridge  (21.17 km); Nsimalen – Mbalmayo – Centre/South Limit (52.23 km); Centre/South Limit – Ebolowa (35.57 km); 3 kilometres already fully repaired on the Mora – Dabanga – Kousseri road (3 km); Access roads to the University of Dschang and to sport infrastructure (2.74 km); Bamenda – Bambili (12 km); Babadjou – Matazem section on the Babadjou – Bamenda road (17 km); Messamena – Somalomo (57 km); Bazou – Tongo – Milombe (41.8 km).

Despite all these claims, the rate of accidents on Cameroon’s roads has increased. Most of these accidents are attributed to the bad nature of the roads.
