Regional Election: CPDM accused of vote-buying in Far North

Cameroon’s first-ever Regional Election has come and gone but the dust is yet to settle over alleged irregularities in the process.

In the Far North region, the MDR party says the ruling CPDM party did not stick to the Elections Cameroon, ELECAM script.

The party says the ruling CPDM asked its 112 Councillors to each take home their opponent’s ballot papers against a reward.

The MDR also criticized the ruling party, terming its actions as inconsiderate. The party, it noted, was willing to go to all extremes to win, including transporting sick councilors to polling status, to the detriment of their health.

The ruling party has so far given no response to these accusations.

Territorial administration minister Paul Atanga Nji yesterday noted that the process had taken place smoothly nationwide without any hitches.
