Regional Elections: Chief dies in Garoua hours after casting vote

An election whose organization so far has been marred with controversy has yet again been struck as a traditional ruler in his 70s died in Garoua, barely a few hours after he was carried to the polling station to cast his vote.

The deceased is a third grade chief who was taken close to 150 kilometers away from his palace at Troua to go vote in Garoua, North Regional capital.

Despite his poor health condition, he was transported to cast his vote in the first-ever regional elections in the country.

Credible reports reveal that the traditional ruler collapsed some minutes after leaving the polling station. He died few minutes later and has been transported back to Troua by his family members who brought him to Garoua to cast his vote.

Elsewhere in the country, precisely in the Northwest Region, agitations have been reported from separatist fighters who are threatening to disrupt the election processes in the region.

In Kumbo, there are reports coming in which say there is a tense atmosphere as sporadic gunshots have been heard from various parts of the town.
