A sergeant chef from the Rapid Intervention Battalion (B.I.R) unit, known as Sanda, is reported to have engaged in revenge shootings at a Limbe nightclub. The soldier is said to have entered the nightclub in Limbe carrying an M21 assault rifle and several loaded magazines. Without warning, he began shooting at innocent customers. At approximately 4:30 AM, the tragic incident unfolded, resulting in the loss of one life and injuries sustained by two individuals.

Reports indicate that Sanda’s actions were driven by the recent deaths of his fellow soldiers in Bamenda, which were caused by Ambazonia separatist fighters known simply as “Ambas Boys.” Separatists operating in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon have been advocating for a breakaway state called Ambazonia. They turned to violence and have been targeting both the Cameroon military and civilians. One of the most recent cases is that of gendarmes killed in Manyu division.

Despite the tragic circumstances, the swift intervention of bystanders and security personnel resulted in the apprehension of Sanda. He is currently in custody and is being investigated at the Limbe Gendarmerie Company headquarters.

This incident highlights the persistent violence and instability that continue to affect Cameroon, specifically in the Anglophone regions. The tragic loss of innocent lives and the profound trauma experienced by those affected underscore the pressing necessity for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

The identity of the deceased victim has yet to be disclosed. The status of the two injured individuals is still uncertain and the motives of the individual responsible are currently under investigation. The incident has ignited a strong reaction and demands accountability from the local community.

This tragic incident should prompt a renewed focus on efforts to put an end to the violence in Cameroon. It is crucial for the international community to actively engage in fostering dialogue and advocating for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The people of Cameroon must come together and work collectively to envision a future that is devoid of violence and suffering.
