Road Project Abandoned For Over 50 Years Stalling Development In Center Region

It is a sorry sight when traveling along the Yaoundé-Diyala road, and come around the ‘Barrier’ area, which is now a typical dust sanctuary.

Reportedly widened during the colonial era, the road, locals say, has never received any form of attention from government and local authorities.

In the dry seasons, the road, they say, becomes very dusty, painting its environs deep brown, and causing all sorts of health risks for the locals.

According to our sources on ground, a team showed up two years ago, with the promise that the project was going to get attention but later disappeared into thin air.

Nevertheless, nothing has changed. The road remains dusty in the dry season, and close to inaccessible in the rainy seasons with excessive mud.
