Owing to his commitment to ensuring more road safety on the highways, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe has installed surveillance cameras in 100 interurban transport buses plying mostly the Yaoundé-Douala, Douala-Bafoussam, and Bafoussam-Dschang highways.
The aim of these cameras, according to the Transport Ministry, is to monitor the actions of the driver, his habits, and decisions while he is on the highway.
The cameras and the system to be installed in the buses is the fruit of a partnership between the Transport Ministry and the Camtrack MTN consortium. The system was designed based on the numerous road accidents which have taken hundreds of lives on Cameroon’s highways I’m recent years.
The system installed in these busses will now be able to identify the cause of potential accidents, be it speeding, drunk driving, overloading, reckless driving, and much more.
