Samuel Eto’o Expresses Gratitude Following Election to CAF Executive Committee

Former Cameroonian football star Samuel Eto’o has expressed deep gratitude following his election to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee. The 44-year-old took to Facebook to share his appreciation for the unanimous vote that secured his position within African football’s highest decision-making body.

“Simply … thank you!” Eto’o began his heartfelt message. “On September 12, 2025, for the second time in the history of African football, the delegates of the General Assembly of the African Football Confederation elected, after my predecessor Kalusha Bwalya, a former footballer, to sit on the Executive Committee of our governing body.”

Eto’o acknowledged the trust placed in him by the delegates and highlighted the significance of having former players take on leadership roles within CAF. “Dear delegates, it is a great honour for me. I sincerely thank you. Your unanimous vote expresses your confidence in my modest abilities and the consideration you have for former footballers,” he stated.

He also extended his appreciation to the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), emphasising their unwavering support. “I also salute the delegates of the Cameroonian Football Federation, whose support has never failed me. Of course, I extend my sincere gratitude to the Executive Committee of FECAFOOT; without you, I would not have reached this height.”

Eto’o made a special mention of CAF President Patrice Motsepe, expressing his commitment to working collaboratively under his leadership. “I also thank Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the president of CAF, for his warm welcome. Dear Elder, I assure you of my sincere and frank collaboration. Under your enlightened leadership, we will give African football the place it deserves in global competition.”

Concluding his message, Eto’o further expressed appreciation for his supporters across Africa and beyond, acknowledging the encouragement that has helped him navigate various challenges. “Thank you to you, dear friends from Africa and elsewhere, who love and appreciate me. Your affection has given me the strength to overcome the challenges I have faced until today. Let us continue to write history together.”

With this statement, Samuel Eto’o reaffirmed his dedication to advancing African football and strengthening its global presence. His election marks a new chapter in his journey, transitioning from a celebrated player to an influential figure in football governance.
