Samuel Wazizi: Gone but not forgotten

Samuel Abuwe Ajiekha fondly known as Samuel Wazizi was born in 1987 in the North West Region of Cameroon where he schooled till the secondary level. He later moved to the capital of the South West Region – Buea where he was killed by the forces of law and order prematurely.

Samuel Wazizi arrived Buea with almost no professional skills of his own, but he was a very skilled and successful agriculturalist. In Buea, he settled in Muea from where he practised his agricultural activities which he used to sustain himself.

Samuel Wazizi would then venture into media where he learnt video directing and video production. He later landed a job with the then new Chillen Music TV (CMTV) where he multitasked as a Pidgin TV News caster for his program “Halla ya Matter”.

He also worked as the camera man for the TV for important duties, a reporter and as a video editor for the same media house. Many persons passed through CMTV and left but Wazizi remained. No one who watched the channel could claim they did not know Wazizi and his famous program. His dedication as a multitasking journalist did not stop him from his farm work. He used to say that his hoe and his cutlass gave him more money than microphone and his camera.

The only thing that kept Wazizi going was his passion for the profession and his fearlessness in carrying out his duties. Wazizi revealed he had already been threatened when he went to Muyuka and interviewed the mother of the child who was shot dead by the military. That however didn’t stop or deter his focus whatsoever.

He equally worked and collaborated with several multimedia organs in Buea, in which he provided his expertise in professional photography and video production when needed. He acted as an agent for these companies by bringing in customers and trainees.

One of the trainees (Names withheld) whom he personally brought to Buea from Bamenda says Wazizi was the only real brother he ever knew and that his arrest and imminent death came as a shock to him for he knew Wazizi to be an honest person undeserving of what happened to him.

Now arrested, tortured and murdered without any fair trial or hearing, the media yet again is left to mourn one of their own uprooted by the regime.
