The Senior Discipline Master of Government Technical High School, Ngaoundal, Djerem Division of Cameroon’s Adamawa Region, has tendered an apology to the Mbororo Community for cutting the hair of a high school female student, Haouwa.

He proffered his regrets recently in a letter addressed to the community leaders for an act that was seeming to stir some outrage in the area.

Dabotator Calvin, admitted he went off-limits in trimming the hair of the student whom he was trying to instil discipline following the guiding rules and regulations of the institutions. He acknowledged the pain and confusion caused by his act, which he describes as “involuntary” and “inappropriate.”

“I have the honour to come very respectfully to admit that I have cut your daughter’s hair, which I mistook for dreadlocks… On my knees, I apologize to you for this unfortunate incident at the Government Technical High School, Ngaoundal which occurred around 7:20 am on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, during a routine conformity check, punctuality, and attendance of the students before they got to class,” the letter to the Mbororo Community read in part.

While admitting to have learned from the bitter experience, the Senior Administrator committed himself in breeding a more convivial environment on campus where students feel valued and respected for their identity, regardless of their personal choices regarding their appearance.

“Please receive my sincere apologies, I’m sorry and shocked by the act taken and I promise never to touch a single hair of my students,” he added.

Meanwhile, Discipline Master also presented a similar apology to the Divisional Delegate of Secondary Education for the Djerem, after receiving a query for the same offence.

Worth mentioning is the fact that keeping natural hair till marriage is more custom and pride to the Fulani or Mbororo Community. Trimming the hair with no concrete justification is seen as sacrilege.
