The Social Democratic Front (SDF) National Executive Committee (NEC) issued four resolutions condemning recent acts of terror in the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon and charging the government to assume its responsibility for peace in the two embattled regions.

It condemned the recent killing of civilians by separatist fighters, especially the killing and burning of three civilians in Buea last Thursday.

The NEC also criticised the “government’s inability to bring a lasting end to the ongoing crisis” and urged authorities to protect students and teachers who are braving separatists’ threats and attacks to pursue education.

To reinforce a two-week lockdown and their anti-school campaign, the separatists launched several attacks in the North West and South West last week that caused the deaths of at least six civilians, including two teachers.

The SDF is among several groups that have condemned the recent killings and the boycott of schools.

The SDF also raised its voice against rising economic hardship, increasing poverty, and poor town planning and called on the government to take measures to improve the living conditions of Cameroonians.

The NEC also defined the SDF’s position on military coups that have rocked Africa and reiterated the party’s preference for democratic rule.

The NEC release said military takeovers “clearly constitute unconstitutional political transitions in total violation of the Charter of Democracy, Elections, and Governance (CADEG) of the African Union”.
