1:15 pm Sunday, December 6th 2020, Carlos Ngwalem councilor of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) Douala 5 Wouri division in the Littoral region cast his vote at Lycee Joss polling centre in Douala.
To the greatest surprise of reporters, other councilors, election observers and even workers of Elections Cameroon, the politician visibly unperturbed walked away after humbly rejecting advances by journalists to get an interview.
Seven minutes after, Job Theophile Kwapnang, SDF councilor at Douala 5 and former mayor of the same council made his way to the polling station.
Speaking to the press after fulfilling his civic responsibility as a municipal councillor, the former mayor said “…SDF is not competing to win seats in the regional councils but we are not against regional councils. The party decided to boycott election but as a councilor, I have to vote.”
The politician refutes allegations that he has betrayed the SDF party by voting, especially given that the party had publicly called for a boycott.
Job Theophile Kwapnang however refused to mentioned whether he voted for any of the three political parties running for the regional council or he cast an empty vote.
The SDF party headed by Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi had announced boycott of the polls saying government should start by resolving the anglophone crisis.
Political analysts say SDF is aware of her few councillors and practically no control over traditional rulers who constitute the electoral college.
