The Social Democratic Front SDF party chairman, John Fru Ndi has appreciated the outcomes of the national dialogue aimed at restoring calm to the Anglophone regions.
In a press statement he appreciated choice of a special status for the North West and South West regions. “These regions shall have to enjoy autonomy characterised by constitutionally entrenched executive, legislative and judicial powers with an administrative set up that reflects the aspirations of the people of these two regions”.
For this to work he added, “the Quebec model appeals more to Cameroon by virtue of a similar heritage”.
With the Canadian model, Quebec is vested with attributes of statehood that include a house of assembly, a premier, a government as well as a distinctive administrative system.
In a bid to achieve this he proposed, “the house of chiefs shall be reinstated and elected governance restored across the politico-administrative machinery,” the SDF said.
The resolution of a special status for the two regions comes amidst controversy with some calling for the return to federation.
