Security officer killed in Balikumbat

A security officer has been killed in Balikumbat village in Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region of Cameroon. The officer was found dead after armed men attacked a military post where he was on duty.

The soldier whose name we got as Abessolo Kouma was on duty with other colleagues in the afternoon of Tuesday 14 June 2023 when the attack occurred.

Sources say three security officers were wounded.

Attacks by Amba fighters have not been too frequent in parts of Ngoketunjia Division in recent months but has remained a dangerous location considering that it was host to several dreaded generals of the non state armed groups.

The area has been relatively calm following the departure of Shina Rambo, kid brother to dreaded amba general ‘no pity’.

The dreaded fighter recently laid down his weapon to join the National Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration Center (DDRC) in Bamenda in May.

According to our sources in Balikumbat, a group of heavily armed non state fighters in the area took the security forces by ambush.

The three security officers wounded have been taken to a medical facility while the corpse of the one killed has been deposited at the Bamenda hospital mortuary.
