Senatorial Elections: CPDM accused of ‘caging’ Councillors, blocks SDF from campaigning to them

Regional and Municipal Councillors of the Northwest Region, who make up the electoral college of the March 12 Senatorial Elections, are reportedly ‘caged’ in hotels in and out of Bamenda, depending on where they will cast their votes come Sunday, March 12.

Senatorial candidates of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, party have not taken this lightly.

They said they have not been able to meet the Councillors and entice them with what they have.

They have accused the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) party of denying them the opportunity to talk to the Councillors by blocking them in hotels.

“We have a rich manifesto, but we can’t sell it to the voters because they are caged by CPDM barons all because of fear that we will beat them in the elections, despite their crushing majority in terms of the number of Municipal Councils,” said one of the SDF candidates who spoke to us on condition of anonymity.

If given another mandate to represent the Northwest Region at the Senate, the SDF says it will continue to advocate for a salary for all Regional and Municipal Councillors; one billion francs CFA to all Councils to carry out development activities, among others.

The CPDM is most likely to win all the seven Senatorial seats allocated for the Northwest in the elections.

This is because the party controls all but one of the 33 Municipal Councils in the Northwest Region.
