Senatorial Elections: SDF militant accuses CPDM of using separatist fighters against them

By Soulemanu Buba

A militant of the Social Democratic Front party, SDF, has accused their rival, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, of conniving with Ambazonia separatist fighters in the Northwest Region to frustrate their campaigns for tomorrow’s Senate Elections.

The SDF official, who gave his only name as Fonjong, said fighters of the Ambazonia Defence Forces, ADF, only blocked the Bamenda-Mbengwi road after a CPDM campaign team had passed to Mbengwi.

The road blockade which is still ongoing, aimed to frustrate SDF militants from reaching Mbengwi for campaigns, he claimed.

“We heard the ADF saying they have blocked the Bamenda-Mbengwi road till further notice. This was only after they had allowed the CPDM caravan to drive pass. Knowing that the SDF will also be moving to Mbengwi to campaign, they connived with the CPDM to block the roads,” said Fonjong, an SDF supporter in Mbengwi.

The CPDM has not reacted to the allegation levied against them.

Separatist fighters in the North West Region have come under fire for facilitating the CPDM’s victory at previous elections, including the February 2020 parliamentary and legislative elections.

A separatist lockdown on the week of the elections made it difficult for people to go out to vote and this increased the CPDM’s chances for victory, according to opposition party officials.

It is rumoured that the separatists have called for another lockdown on Sunday, March 12, to frustrate the Senatorial Elections.
