Senegalese Novelist Wins 2021 Goncourt Award

Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, a Senegalese writer is the winner of the 2021 edition of the Goncourt Award. His novel titled “La Plus Secrète Mèmoire des Hommes” enabled him to scoop the prize from other serial writers.

Before the award, Mohamed Mbougar Sarr was indeed widely regarded as the favorite for the award. He was nevertheless officially announced the winner of the award on November 3, 2021.

The Senegalese novelist hence won the award ahead of his three competitors: Christine Angot, (Le voyage dans l’Est) Sorj Chalandon (Enfant de salaud), and Louis-Philippe Dalembert (Milwaukee Blues).
31-year-old Mohamed Mbougar Sarr succeeds Hervé le Tellier, the winner of the previous edition of the Goncourt Award.
