Mbala Nga Ela, a senior education official and teacher at Government High School, known in French as Lycée d’Enseignement Général, Hors Échelle (PLEG-HE), has declined his appointment as Director of Government Primary School (CES) Linte. In a formal letter addressed to the Minister of Secondary Education on August 27, 2024, Mr. Mbala cited health reasons, age, and the remote location of the new post as factors influencing his decision.

Mr. Mbala expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him but stated, “After 30 years of dedicated service, including 9 years as Censeur in various high schools and 7 years as Director of Government Primary School de Ndjole, I kindly request to be replaced by a younger individual.” He noted that he is 17 months away from retirement and that his current health does not permit him to handle the physical demands of the new position.

The Government Primary School (CES) Linte, where he was recently appointed, is over 100 kilometers from Yoko and 70 kilometers from Ngoro, with access only by motorcycle. “The conditions are extremely difficult,” he explained. “At my age and with my health, I can no longer endure these challenges.”

Mr. Mbala requested a transfer closer to his hometown of Mfou as he approaches retirement. He added, “I would be grateful if you could consider a promotion that would allow me to be stationed nearer to my home during this final stage of my career.”

His letter highlights the challenges faced by senior staff members working in remote areas, particularly those nearing retirement.
