One of the Ambazonian separatist leaders, Ayaba Cho Lucas, has asked the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Mélanie Joly, to withdraw the statement on the peace process, which is meant to facilitate an end to the conflict in Cameroon’s anglophone regions.

Statement by the Foreign Minister of Canada @melaniejoly
On the Commitment and Mandate between Movements from Former British Trust Territory of Southern Cameroons and Cameroon should be withdrawn@StateDept @NorwayMFA @CanadaFP@melaniejoly @FCDOGovUK

— Dr CHO AYABA, Leader AWOL (@ChoAyaba) January 20, 2023

Ayaba Cho , who is the President of the Ambazonia Governing Council (AGovC), made the call in a Tweet, barely a few hours after the publication of the statement by the Canadian government.

Ayaba Cho fails to provide a rationale for his request, though members of his group, reacting to the Tweet, made it clear that they were unhappy with the wording of the document.

Many have expressed dismay at Ayaba Cho’s outing, considering that the Canadian statement has been received positively by many who feel it is a major step towards finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict.

“This is a good window for all to end the sufferin(g) of the poor people on the ground but going by past experience, I fear y’ll will start infighting and waste this opportunity again” Puis Ntomakeh expressed in dismay.

That didn't take long!
Doing what you all do best.
This is a good window for you all to end the sufferin of poor people on ground but going by past experience, I fear y'll will start infighting and waste this opportunity again. Think abt those who are being killed every day pls.

The separatist leader goes on to call into question, the integrity of the Canadian government:

“We call on Gov’t of Canada to act with integrity by issuing a statement that reflects the spirit and content of what we worked on,” Ayaba Cho said in another tweet.

Responding to the call by Ayaba Cho, the President of African Access Consulting, Chris W J Roberts, said his failure to “read and note the significance of the language in the final paragraph” of the statement means that “all hope is lost”.

This is a carefully crafted diplomatic statement that has to take many considerations into account. If you can't read this and note the significance of the language in the final paragraph, then all hope is lost.
