“Separatists, Government Should Exercise Humanitarian Ceasefire; Biya Should Reinitiate Dialogue” –

The European Union, EU, Parliament, has issued a text, declaring a resolution reached, urging the Cameroon government and separatists to exercise Humanitarian ceasefire and undertake confidence-building measures, towards resolving the Secessionists crisis.

The text titled “ The European Parliament resolution on the human rights situation in Cameroon was reached yesterday, November 25th, 2021, a day after some yet to be known gunners invaded GBHS Ekondo Tit amongst others, killing at least 3 students and a language teacher.

The body, being one of the legislative branches of The EU, indicated that human rights abuse in Cameroon, is an issue of growing concern, with most times, no defaulters held accountable, for killing armless civilians, especially women and children.

Highlighting the Ngarbuh multiple killings, in which the State finally accepted responsibility, after which, according to the Parliament, no concrete pieces of information were presented to the Cameroonian people, nor the International community.

The Parliament insists that with actions like freeing non – violent prisoners and lifting of bans on school activities, belligerents will build trust and confidence, towards ending a conflict seriously affecting the civilian population, then fighters.

The 705 member Chamber also noted its awareness of the Cameroon government’s sluggishness in calling for true dialogue with Separatists ringleaders, to resolve a crisis it initiated in 2016, after forcefully suppressing the peace march of The Anglophone Civil Society Consortium.

While offering to mediate talks between The Cameroon government and Separatists, like other parties it mentioned, The EU parliament calls on the Biya administration to immediately reinitiate peaceful dialogue with Anglophone Secessionists.

The body again, stated Cameroonian authorities have subjected civilians to judgments at military tribunals, in most cases with predetermined results, thereby undermining the rule of law governing true democracy.

While calling for an end to death penalties still practiced in Cameroon even in 2021, The EU parliament highlights, Cameroon still conducts judgments and passes sentences of instant killing on perceived defaulters, an act that ought to be abolished, since it was last executed in Cameroon, in 1997.
