Express Union, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, has captured 7 persons, specializing in extortion from parents seeking to pay school fees.
The arrest was carried out on Thursday, September 29, 2022, following a raid by the elements of the Regional Division of the Judicial Police of the Center (DRPJ) in the Ekounou, Ngoa Ekellé and Nkoldom high schools and Charles Atangana Technical School.
In a release by the company’s management, the General Director indicated that they have been, “… victims of a usurpation of our label by ill-intentioned individuals who have made uniforms similar to ours, prowling around the high schools and collecting the contributions from students and parents.”
The fake agents were caught with items such as telephones printers and stamps which they used to facilitate their operations.
In a bid to curb the degrading situation, the company has resorted to “raising awareness among principals, students and parents of students,” amongst other measures.
Investigations are however underway to fetch other persons involved in the extortion act.
